"I have been paying an annual fee for my VISA for years."

I'm surprised at you guys. Citi Mastercard, no fee, cash back up to $300 per year.

American Express (Hilton Honors), no fee, points for hotel stays.

Years ago we turned all our frequent flyer miles in Hilton Honors points since the flight blackout dates and limited seats made them problematic. Probably can't do that anymore, but we typically use the first until we hit the $300 and then use the other the remainder of the year. Pays for a week somewhere every couple of years and allows us to put relatives up in a nice hotel when they come to visit. Charge everything, pay the bill in full always. Hotels are easy even during holiday seasons in popular places with a little lead time (2 months max).

If they start fees and I'll do debit or cash, or maybe even checks just to piss someone off. Besides, I've still got a box of checks with my address from 3 residences ago (8 years) that I should use up someday.
