GREEAAAAT NEEEEWWWWWSSS... Did I get your attention. Good... Because the news from the show just came in from my friend that attended AND took notes. Sit down and strap in because YOU are going to LIKE this.. First my friend (the pilot) just called me from his home in NY on the FNET DVS. Yes that's right his home to my home and NO SPEAKER PHONE to muck it up. The sound is PERFECT with only a slight effect when we BOTH talk. But ALMOST undetectable when he ADJUSTED it out with the keyboard on his phone. You'll learn about that soon. Next around 100 people attended and they were all suits. Jim told me that the questions asked were definitly hi tech and these people knew what this was about but they weren't ready for the quality. Oh and they ALL stayed right to the END of the show. The FNET IPO will come off between Jan-Mar. Frank said he expects to raise 120 Million dollars and IPO 22 Million shares. But here is the good part FTEL will retain 10% of FNETS earnings AND will hold 60% of their STOCK. WIth the 120 Million FNET will be able to place Gateways in virtually every Major City in the world PLUS 80% of the US. When asked by someone in the audience how FNET was going to win this battle Frank stated FTEL/FNET had the COST/ SPEED/ and QUALITY edge...Jim also said Frank Peters came across great to the people there. He also stated that LUCENT technology's Legitimized the whole field when they entered. Before that it was not taken seriously, now it is. (Oh before I forget, my phone rang while he and I were talking on the Gateway and I clicked the receiver on my Call Waiting and then thought I probably lost him, I didn't, it worked just like ANY OTHER CALL) Frank also said that the ENHANCED features of the DVS will be offered as customers need them. Also Jim told me that a Rep from CITICORP was there as a Long time FTEL customer. Nice... Frank mentioned that the RESOURCES for the NY show were 4 normal phone lines and that it took them a couple of hours to set the whole thing up and there were NO bugs of any kind to deal with. On the SATELLITE front Frank mentioned Boeing and the Russians. Apparently the Russians are lauching some Geo sync satellites that will be used for the Network with Boeing... Last but not least the Partner on the 2.5 Mill deal is a company called INTRINE (sp) I have NO idea about this company but apparently they heard of the DVS and set up a deal with FTEL to purchase them and FTEL will get 30% from them for billing, etc. On the above I don't feel bad that its NOT a biggy as I was told by Helen that they showed up AFTER the announcement on the DVS. So I suspect that 1) Frank is STILL constrained by the Quite period and 2) IMO, we haven't SCRATCHED the surface of this company. We have a LOT of surprises in front of us with FTEL and CO. In closing I took these notes from Jim's Notes of the meeting. I think I got ALL of it just the way I was told but I hope we get further info from our "other" attendees.
