What is most striking is Obama's defensiveness. Having spent the early portion of his adult life exclusively in universities, community organizing, or in government, and clearly being brilliant, Obama seems to expect affirmation rather than challenge. All of which, his experience of running for President has only confirmed. However, now he is President. And like Wilson and Carter before him, a lot of high minded arrogant naivité is in the process of meeting up with the hard earth of reality. Whether it's a face first into the dirt kind of meetup, or a less catastrophic course adjustment, depends on how Obama reacts. So far his level of defensiveness does not augur well. Nor his persistent belief that every circle is square if only he says so.
