Dems Swat Down GOP Demand for Probe of Pelosi CIA Claims
GOP members lost on a resolution calling for a probe into whether the CIA misled Pelosi on waterboarding.

House Democrats have defeated a Republican push to investigate House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's claims that the CIA misled her in 2002 about whether waterboarding had been used against terrorism suspects.

The House voted 252-172 to block the measure that would have created a bipartisan congressional panel.

Pelosi spokeman Nadeam Elshami said the Speaker has already asked the CIA to declassify information supporting her claims. He said it was a partisan ploy by Republicans to distract from more substantive issues.

House Republican Leader John Boehner said she had made serious charges that were having a "chilling" effect on the intelligence community.
