I have never heard anyone who labeled themselves an atheist claim that those others were God or even real. Because if they did, they wouldn't be an atheist, now would they? I know you have a problem with standard definitions of words, but... And I, as an agnostic, feel that the whole Gaia thing is out to lunch. "Hence they use evolution to counter Genesis, which is a key part of the Christian faith" Considering you premise is faulty, any conclusion is likely to be the same. Besides, the key part of the Christian faith is belief in the divinity of Christ, not the inerrancy of the Bible. The latter is the mark of fundamentalist Christianity. Which is not the totality of Christianity.
