It appears that WCOM's position has eroded somewhat should their stock price remain at its current level of $31 a share. And I'm sure Mr. Lee was all smiles watching WCOM's stock price fall today, although his own stock fared pretty miserably too. Now what will be the fall out from all of this? I think WCOM is going to be forced to sweeten their bid considerably more now that their stock has demonstrated some weakness. Moreover, GTE's all cash position is probably looking more and more lucrative to MCI shareholders as each day passes which brings up the question, will MCI's board elect to make a decision sooner rather than later? Anyway, I just feel that under the current market conditions, WCOM's offer is looking weaker by the day, and that they will have to come up with a lot more in the end in order to impress all of MCI's owners.
