Philanthropy - another word for tax write off IMO

Actually, there are lots of wonderful people out there that are willing to help those that need help via philanthropic means.

As the director of a nonprofit, I can tell you that the tax write off is about the last consideration that most givers have.
They want to help, the write off is quite secondary.
