Ted,

The cost of living is way above the national average in CA. For an example, I paid 2 1/2 times the amount for car insurance as I pay here

The collapsing real estate should do wonders to reduce this high cost of living penalty. Other components to high cost of living is just dysfunctional government and its overpaid union employees.
