I wasn't raised that way either. I am the son of an immigrant and we didn't have much when I was young. The only thing they managed to give us was a good education through high school. The rest, I had to do for myself. I had to work all the way through high school and put myself through college and graduate school. The biggest gift my parents gave me was the certainty that a good education was the key to the kingdom in this country. They were partially right. My family is much better off than my parents were. But we are not so well off that I can quit working or that I can sustain damage to my retirement and kids college accounts like what happened last year. I'm one of those guys who did everything they were supposed to do, right down the line. You sound like you had to work hard too. So you should understand why I have so little tolerance for the folks who feel that they deserve anything without hard work and why I have so little tolerance for wasting money, especially when it is my money..that includes social security and tax money.
