Obama must actually believe we can get off foreign produced oil by driving smart cars et al. At best, it will be another car/s in the mix, just like the VW was in its early stages.

He said nothing, so must be overlooking or choosing to ignore, the impact on the oil and oil equipment producing states if demand decreases for their products. Nothing like a little revenue depletion for these states. Oh, I forgot, the green machine will solve that problem. We'll see.

His handshake with jeffery immelt of GE and their development of the electric/hybrid vehicles batteries is his supposed solution for GM and Chrysler, I guess.
