Those black cherries really got things going. Pines are vicious too. I noticed many years ago that pine needles sit there smothering everything and the dripping mist does the rest.

Confirming pines are globally genocidal, I got this via PM <Re: plant competition, having spent some time in a redwood forest and having a rather large specimen in the backyard, I agree. They have an amazing set of needles that NEVER decay. I put some in a compost pile a decade ago and they are still there. In the forest it is perfectly silent because there are no animals and no other plants.

Funny how people wax poetic about the peaceful silence of the forest and don't recognize the underlying source.

The silence of the grave, actually.
