I have mostly read K's columns on foreign policy, which are totally orthodox neocon stuff. And I am not terribly impressed by people who claim to know how to solve the problems of the world without having been there or done much. When I worked in the Balkans in the 90's, various columnists would drift through now and then seeing the scene and talking with the players directly before pontificating in the op-ed pages. It's hard to take a strict, narrow line when you deal with the messy realities up close. It's all an abstract game from an office on Dupont Circle. Looking over K's bio, I don't see any foreign experience at all apart from a brief stint at Oxford almost 40 years ago. Yet he knows what's best for the entire planet. Wow, pretty amazing guy.
