L.D.:
Hi there! Just thought I would share with you a street rumor that seems rather well substantiated. Word has it that the Canadian Government Minister resposible for making the decision regarding the disputed claims has made a decision or is about to, and that the decision is in favour of GNU. Again word has it here that the minister viewed some of the actions of GGL as entrapment when they set up Harper to admitting in writing that he held the ground. I am hoping like crazy that this is just rumor for two reasons.
One, it will have serious implications for both companies especially when all the facts come out, which they will have to at some point. and... Two it will have serious implications for the canadian exploration industry, particularily in the north, when it comes to the rules regarding staking by association. For an explaination I refer all to post #70 on this thread where the concept and issue is discussed.
Should the rumor prove true, it will be surprising to a number of observers who felt that GGL's modus operandi was very cool and kosher. Regardless of the outcome it will be a relief to many to have it over so that all can carry on. The winner will obviously be in a good ground position, and the loser will probably challenge the ministers decision in court, depending on how big their war chest is.
My interest is purely from an industry participant point of view as I haven't been long on GGL since I blew it all out at three bucks many moons ago. They are still a favorite amongst the smaller players in the north though, and their reputation for sheer doggedness is awesome. I am convinced they will succeed at some point in the not to distant future and as such will be looking to get back long at the best opportunity, which may have begun to present itself as a result of todays activities in the markets.
Regards, L8er,
