Mish,

I am having a very hard time getting my mind around the problem of all the developed countries running huge deficits at the same time. Who is going to buy who's debt? How can everybody inflate their economy at the same time?

The Chinese are buying commodities in the ground instead of USA debt showing they are smarter than we thought. I have no idea what the ME oil countries are doing with their surpluses.

I always thought the global economy was a zero sum game. Maybe it is not, in which case nothing works like the textbooks told us. How the heck is the world going to deal with this debt? I am scared to buy long term treasuries because I fear that they will be worth less in the near future and if I hold to maturity then inflation may eat all the gains. If I am afraid of USA debt won't most everyone else think the same way? What happens if the Treasury holds an auction and nobody comes? Or they bid down the price to atmospheric yields?

This whole mess gives me a headache! I hope you, or someone, can explain it to me.

Blessings,

JRH
