I'm reading a fictionalized novel on historical Rome. It seems in times of trouble, say, when the Gauls sacked Rome in 390 BC, the Romans would appoint a dictator to take over. If the economy continues to be unstable and world events continue to threaten (see., e.g., Nuclear capability, Iran, Korea), I could visualize a scenario where Obama declares himself dictator and suspends elections.

ps - I'm not a black helicopter type.
