I already had that. In fact, I think the last one was like the 3rd generation device.

It worked fine. It did always stick out the side and I did worry about moving and tearing it and the computer up.

Another of the advantages is that you can place the Mifi in a place where it gets a good signal and as long as you are within the wifi range you are in good shape. I have been in hotels where the USB would work near the window but not in other parts of the room. So with Mifi you can just set it by the window and use the computer anywhere (wifi range about 30 feet on it) you like.
