Great idea, MJ.

A gg uncle fought in the Spanish American war - his wooden trunk was in the attic of my childhood home and is currently in our basement. Must check it's value, although I'd never sell it.

My family members serving in WWII were:

Uncle Joseph(facial wound on D-day but survived with just the indentation scar of the bullet on his cheek...amazing!)

Uncle Daniel - the Phillipines
" Michael - Air Force stationed in India
" John - stationed in Pearl Harbor after the attack (was teased thereafter by his bros as having the easiest tour of duty :)

Aunt Anna - US Army nurse, in Tokyo at the conclusion of the war. Then in a MASH unit in Korea (she volunteered for the prisoner exchange at Freedom Village and her photo was published in the NY Times - an enormous thrill for the family)
After that she was given a cushy assignment in France (my souvenir were samples of the famous French perfumes)
Her final assignment before retirement was as a Major in charge of the nursery at Walter Reed Hosp, WashDC.

All the above have passed to the great chow line in the sky.

Vietnam War - 1st cousin was part of a top secret unit (the Ghost Squadron) that dropped sensitive listening devices along the Ho Chi Minh trail. Details were held top secret until 2yrs ago when the men finally were called to WashDC to receive their commendation medals.

Can't forget my brother who was in ROTC during the Vietnam War and after graduation (we've no doubt as a result of our mother's never-ending prayers) was assigned to write for a military newspaper in Germany. All of us breathed a deep sigh of relief:)

Iraq War - 2nd cousin has served 3 tours of duty in Iraq. Thankfully he escaped unharmed and is safely back home with his family.
