The battlefields are fascinating. In Fredricksburg, I hired a lady historian to spend the day educating me (she was listed at the Chamber of Commerce). She had a tape that she would stick in the player as we drove to all the different areas. Then we would get out and walk the area while she related different stories.

One of the stories was about George Washington who spent his youth on a farm near Fredricksburg and it was the Rappahannock River that runs through the town that he supposedly threw the coin into.

Antietam was hard to comprehend. 23,000 killed in one day.
