Thanks, MJ. My gg-uncle was born in the US so his trunk is definitely not an immigrant item. I've not found his Spanish-Am War docs as yet, but the trunk appears to be at least that old. Family oral history said he participated in that conflict. There must be photos of those particular military lockers somewhere online (maybe Ebay?) It's wooden with weathered leather covering and straps.

If no one in the younger generation wants to keep it, someday I'll donate the trunk to the town historical society that his immigrant English/Irish parents adopted as their new home turf in the US(1862).

Also had my army-nurse aunt's WWII uniform but gave it away about a decade ago. that was a foolish move...anti-packrat pressure made me do it.<g> Her name is included on a DC memorial.
