But expulsion seems rather extreme. There have been a lot of incidents like this one, more extreme than this one. The point being made, I think, is about the anomalies created by zero-tolerance policies. There have certainly been some unfortunate victims. It would be interesting to see a follow-up done on all those kids so see if there was any long-term impact. I was unfamiliar with that particular device. One has to wonder why she would need to carry it to school. Or in her purse at all, in which case she might forget it was there. If she needed to use such a device, and I can't imagine why, it's something you use at home once in a while, not something you might need to have with you all the time. Even Andy Rooney wouldn't need to carry such a thing with him.
