I do tend to get into short positions a bit too early, so maybe you are right.

That said, there are just too many people who think the recession is winding down, with very slim evidence to support that conclusion.

I agree that one reason for the rally in the Chinese markets is the rally in the US markets, which they tend to be influenced by, at least to an extent. But that influence is not very strong. Note the charts below in the Shanghai composite and the SPX.

In particular, Shanghai began to rally in November and has increased steadily since then. In contrast, the US markets were headed strongly down during this time period, with the exception of the past 2 or 3 months.
