The Republicans can do this easily. They can quote a Democrat who asked a candidate for SCOTUS when asking a question, or in response to an answer....BUT then after they have mentioned the offensive passage of yesteryear, then get into how they are asking the question...

For example~~ When I was a recruiter, I asked people why they were leaving their previous position. If they told me the real reason, and it was a definite personality conflict, and if I KNEW that that employer had high turnover.... I encouraged my candidate to say something to the effect of:

"Well, I don't want to say anything negative about the company, but I will say that I was the first person to stay in the position for more than two years, and that 6 other people had been in the same position in the previous two years before I was there."

You've not said anything negative openly about the employer this way, but youi certainly drive the point home.

And Republicans should be public about this. They should make it plain that Democrats treated Republican SCOTUS nominees poorly and were not treated in kind by Republicans.
