If I may let me comment on this difference in approach.

As you wrote----

"He doesn't see any value in expending effort on this nomination because she will be confirmed anyway and because he sees any push back to such a nomination as a potential wedge with Hispanic voters."

This is the approach that the New York Times advocated when the name was mentioned------. The New York Times, the media posited the position that the Republicans should take.

I am reminded of the media attempting to do the same to President Ronald Reagan as a candidate-----the media would interview party activists at the conventions. The media stated the position they wanted to hear------and that the Democrat oppostiion wanted to hear.

At that time------they wanted to hear President Reagan is too conservative for America. The activists didn't buy it---they rephrased the question and gave the correct answer not the answer of the media.

The Republican party need not fall for this bait-----the Republican Party going back particularly to President Reagan's election formed a coalition of people of all races and national backgrounds.

At the local levels in Virginia, the party under Reagan had numerous outreach groups------Korean Americans, Cuban Americans, Asian Americans-----Puerto Rican Americans----Chinese Americans---- to reach out to the newest citizens of the area.

There was no separate organization for black or white Americans. Color was not important. We were Americans reaching out to the new citizens with the Republican Conservative Philosophy of government.

Obviously, the Democrats will want to make the Republican look anti-everything and everyone---------when it isn't true.

Yes, enter the fray-----.
