Less, I'm sure both you and Ted are correct, except for Ted's ridiculous notion that social work is more important than producing widgets.

Social workers serve an important function in society, and that function is rather hard to quantify for the purposes of accountability. Unfortunately liberals all too often look at the need for social services in black-n-white terms and therefore resist any challenge to their funding.
