China might find that North Korea [their ally] is much more of a threat to them than is South Korea [their purported enemy].

Think about Kasper Gutman making the deal with Sam Spade to let Wilmer Cook take the fall..

At some time in the future China will need to put their dog down.. At some point that will be the more advantageous course :O)
