If the law applies exactly the same way to both

Both? Both whats?

Equal treatment under the law is satisfied by having the law apply the same way to everyone.

But it doesn't. Some people get to marry whomever they love and want to spend their lives with and some people don't. Please tell me how that's equal.

That doesn't mean that the law doesn't wind up helping or hurting one person more than another.

I'm not into that liberal "empathy" thing any more than you are so that point is wasted on me. The point for me is unequal treatment, not hurt. A key foundational tenet of this country is equal protection and I will stand up for that every time.

So, again, please tell me how both heterosexuals and homosexuals are treated equally.
