I have a question that is probably based in music theory. I have noticed that there are scales that seem to involve harmonic relationships that are not a semi-tone apart. So, in some runs of notes, it sounds better if the note is bent by something other than a semi-tone (maybe even less than a quarter or eighth tone). I suspect that these are integer harmonics on other scales. I understand the general math and physics of vibration and asked my wife who plays piano, but there is no equivalent on keyboard (you can't bend pitch).

I don't know what this effect is called (if it even has a name), but would like to read more about it if I just knew what to Google. I confess that I'm ignorant about much of music theory - I play by ear and learned on my own by practicing. Maybe this is widely known by those who didn't learn music in a vacuum.
