I think some things get out of control - when they made buses "squat" to pick up wheelchairs, I think this was a very poor expenditure of money. For the cost, we could have had cell phone dispatched mini-vans that would have been cheaper and actually providing disabled service that was better than adding the $300k per bus. I think public transportation is a good thing but it drives me nuts seeing empty, or nearly empty buses driving around, especially when every single one of them has to be modified to pick up wheelchairs.

I think this is an example of "separate but better". It takes more thinking to implement. Good thinking is something that is often rare.
