The issue with Edwards was more about what was perceived to be excessive attention to his hair. Men aren't traditionally comfortable with having their grooming habits exposed so it would have been embarrassing for any candidate to have that known or to have the make up session secretly captured on video and shown to the public like his was.

Personally, I didn't agree with the criticism. I can see how public figures would want to be presenting themselves without flaw as much as possible. I thought he got a raw deal on that.

I didn't see anything wrong with the Repubs throwing as much money as was needed to get Palin the best wardrobe possible. And I do see it as apples and oranges. Wealthy candidates probably spend more than that from their private funds. But the supposed concern was that she had done something illegal or unethical, which was bogus.
