I don't remember anyone arguing that Palin's wardrobe was illegal. It came from the RNC, not the campaign.

I do remember it being hypocritical, stupid, and politically harmful to McCain.

After all Palin portrayed herself as a regular soccer mom, not someone who spent that kind of money on clothes. It made her look like a phony. And she knew it too, that's why she was as pissed as anyone about the scandal. Why do you think she spent so much time telling us about how she liked to shop second hand?

Secondly, with the economy collapsing, McCain was trying to argue he was the fiscal conservative who could put our economic house in order. Yet here his VP choice is spending hard earned RNC donor money, hand over fist, on designer clothes?

That didn't help his credibility with the American people. The scandal hurt their campaign, made them look foolish, hypocritical and trivial in very serious times...
