Marijuana users are a set of people who want a particular thing, so are homo and hetero-sexuals.

OK, now I understand the disconnect. You don't recognize the difference between a grouping of people with the same agenda, an interest group, and a grouping based upon an immutable identity. Or perhaps you just don't recognize homosexuals as having an immutable identity. If homosexuals were merely another interest group that "wants a particular thing," then your position would make sense. We're not all entitled to be given what we want under law, at least not yet.

You can't get more equal than that.

If you had a law or a contract that allocated everyone a parka for winter wear, would you be treating them equally if you gave everyone a size medium? Of course not. The point of giving them parkas is to protect them from the cold. Ergo treating them equally would involve giving each a parka that fit. Precisely equal is not effectively equal for those who cannot utilize the parka because it doesn't fit. Allowing a homosexual man to marry a woman does not fit ergo is not equal.
