And where and when should all this highlighting occur? Presumably not during Sotomayer's confirmation hearings. It doesn't matter that Sotomayer is confirmed. Ginsburg was confirmed, wasn't she? The point is to stand up for principle at every opportunity. A principled opposition to Sotomayer could have a bearing on later appointees. Even if it didn't, I would hardly advocate not opposing simply because Obama might laugh in private. I figure he laughs in private every day. He's a caricature of a President. But he needs to be opposed at every turn.
