But Obama, with his repeated demands for a settlement freeze, "has revived a long-dormant Palestinian fantasy: that the United States will simply force Israel to make critical concessions, whether or not its democratic government agrees, while Arabs passively watch and applaud."

The only argument I have with this statement is calling the fantasy "long-dormant". It is an ever-living Palestinian fantasy. And why not? The US has agreed with the rest of the world to protect them no matter how they behave.

As for Abu Mazen's position, it was hard-line and it remains hard-line. He is far too weak to even consider taking any other position. If the IDF stops raiding the West Bank, he and his corrupt cronies will all be overthrown.
