Actually Joe describes himself as a Burkian conservative. That means liberal initiatives that he might once have disagreed with but are now institutionalized like medicare, he would now support because they have become part of the social contract between govt and people. There is much to like about Joe as opposed to know nothings like rush and the just say no crowd in congress. This country desparately needs its two party system back and guys like Joe and republican governors (more of those will be elected in next cycle as incumbants in both parties go down because of local woes) hopefully will lead with a moderate approach. Burkian cons will replace neos and paleos i think and have a chance to win congress back by 014. Obama will help save us and repubs will save us from any future excesses of big govt, if and only if they change their ways. Big IF indeed.
