Stories ponokee don't say: Met a local, (former colonial). Discussed N. Korea and geopolitics.
We met because I offered him to seat at my table for breakfast at the coffee shop (photo coming soon) at the back of my building affectionately called "Pocilguinha".
Pocilga is the poetic name for a pig stall. It means little pig stall. I always name my places Muquifo. Muquifo is the name for a poor man house.
Pocilga is the poetic name for a pig stall. Pocilguinha means little pig stall. The pick up truck is called Bombinha. Which means little bomb. Since it can explode (in this case breakdown) at any moment.
Those old colonials are the ones who said in independence day: "Kill me, but I won't leave Angola. I am Angolan. I am not Portuguese. I have not to do in Portugal. So I am going to stay".
He stayed on, and for 30 years war ravaged the country. Today they are old. Their daughters are mulatas who we see in Angola. People say that in Benguela there is even more of them.
He talked about N. Korea. I said, They want a bribe to dismantle the atomic facilities. He said. No. They want to join in S. Korea.
"See, join, become big, Scares the shit of Japan, you know." I drunk my galão and munched tostada mista ( ust bread cheese and ham) washed down with a galão (big glass of coffee and milk).
Elmat "How? Exploding a device...?"
Local "Have you heard the Hyundai guy suicide?"
Elmat "Yeah. Roh."
Local "It is related."
Elmat "Was foul play involved?"
Local "No. It was frustratation for not happening. It is huge. Picture the industry in the south. Economic trouble. It needs to be big"
The guy has a point perhaps.
Because he talks about scale. Need to be big to survive. Thus avoiding Return to natural size.
Demographics show S. Korea the lowest birth rate in the world (as pointed in the thread last week).
Local continues: "Device explosion is related. Showed frustration"
Elmat keeps munching:
Local: "See Russia, won't bother. Neither China. Japan would not like that."
I came back thinking. Now I see: Australia. Anglos. Near a Big Korea.
Australia to hold conference to explore formation of Asia Pacific Community

SINGAPORE: Australia will convene a conference later this year to explore the formation of an Asia Pacific Community.
The country's Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd, announced this on Friday during his keynote address at the 8th Shangri-La Dialogue, an annual gathering of defence leaders and security experts in Singapore.
Mr Rudd said the Asia Pacific region lacks a single organisation that can ensure better economic co-operation and political stability. That in the long term could possibly result in a drift among Asia Pacific countries.
He said an Asia Pacific Community could, for example, be used for countries to provide military transparency and reassure neighbours. And ASEAN could play a leading role in it.
He said: "We need a body that brings together leaders of key nations in the Asia Pacific region, including Indonesia, India, China, Japan, United States and other nations with a mandate to engage the security, economic and political challenges we will face in the future.
"Just as ASEAN (has) built a strong measure of strategic congruence in Southeast Asia between many countries of different political systems and at times with active hostilities towards one another, so also could an Asia Pacific Community over time build up a sharper sense of security community across our wider region." - CNA/vm |
