Bet ya that uninsured Americans now top 50 million, given the recession. Also much Insurance coverage is just partial or not good for high expense problems; that represents perhaps another 25 million people. Over 75 million are second class citizens; would it not be more appropriate to cut out the middlemen, the insurance companies, have a single payer system where the health professionals can practice without all the insurance hassles and deliver patient care?
Yes, there may be some people that have to wait for elective treatments, but some of them can fly to Thailand as they do now; and , in the meantime the 50 people who die each day in the US because our system is so full of holes might be reduced to 10 or 15 a day even if some services, which have been currently in artificial supply in any case as medical professionals have many hurdles ,end up being rationed a bit more .
I am on Medicare and It works quite well, except that some doctors and other health providers over-treat and over-medicate, really prevention of overuse is critical to system health.
I see many elderly people who use medical services as a social time, and i see many doc's who prescribe without enough attention to the whole patient. In my mother's case , she was on 13 drugs , many of which countermanded the other, until I went to her primary and complained; then it was cut to 6. I still went through the list and got it cut to 5. Big cost savings and mom felt better. |
