Including the cost of the bailouts would not be apples to apples. We won't know whether those bailouts cost the tax payers or not until we know whether they will be paid back. For example, the TARP money is already being paid back by some of the big banks. The GM bailout may also be recouped through the shares they will own, but probably only in part.

If you want to start including all of that stuff, then I'd have to go back and take a look at all the bailouts that occurred over the last 30 years during Republican administrations. The bottom line is both parties spend money that we don't have. The only choice we really have is what that money is spent on. Republicans spend it on tax cuts and wars and Dems spend it on social programs and investments in education and renewable energy. Take your pick.
