Eric,

Ultimately it would seem that all wind or solar plants would need backup via some quick start fuel (yeah - I know - molten salt - perhaps someday). Gas or oil can do that. Gas is far more available.

The problem is the cost for ROI has to include both investments. At a lot of times there will be a lot of I not generating any R. With current energy prices that means prices will be artificially high.
