How much of that $500 billion is dam construction and how much is the high-tech solar and wind technology you think will bring someone vast wealth?

If dam construction was included, it would eat it all up. The mammouth South to North project alone is projected to cost in the hundreds of billions dollars. If, of course, it is ever really built.

They are focusing more on wind, solar and geothermal than anything else, as far as alternatives go. But you're right, they are still building coal plants. They have been investing in "clean coal" technologies as well. They have as much to lose as almost any country does from both pollution and climate change, and they know it. Some of their new coal palnt will be replacing older less efficient and dirtier plants rather than actually adding power.

One of the understatements anyone can make is that even with the best intentions to address the issues that fossil fuels create it will be long slow slog.
