Proposition. US got into iraq because intel was that saddam had wmd and was working on nukes. If that was in fact the case would:
1. Saddam would have been a threat because he was an unstable and dangerous enough character to either use or proliferate those weapons, even to terror groups he had little relationship to (as in tactical alliance against common enemy, used thru history)

No.


2. Gore if had won the election and faced with the same intel, have done similar things. History of clinton admin tells us there was a strong belief that saddam posed a strategic threat with wmd and strong action might be taken if they got a shot at him.

I hope not.

Look....my attitude is that America goes to war as easily as other countries celebrate holidays. We have developed this whole cult around the military and militaristic behavior. We have convinced ourselves that the world will have fallen a part long ago had it not been for the US, forgetting that up until WW II the world did very well without us. And I am not even sure they needed us during WW II but it became a moot point when Japan attacked us. Insuring our warlike behavior is a whole industry that has developed around defense. In other words, we have a vested interest economically in going to war. I believe that's why presidents, particularly GOP presidents, manage to find a war they can not resist....and Dem presidents are not much better. I am sick of it and I think thats why this country is in decline now.
