Sam.. that article you detailed is EXACTLY why I'm leery about solar power.

It's just YET being shown to be cost effective without heavy government (taxpayer) support.

Throwing money at Alternative energy isn't going to make it more competitive against current fossil fuels. We need STRATEGIC PLANNING, involving government AND private industry, that lays out a framework for transitioning from petroleum to renewables.

So let's not begrudge subsidies to the fossil fuel sector when it's imperative to increase our production while we sort out an economically viable transition.

I've no doubt there are likely some controversial subsidies out there. But then again, there are VERY CONTROVERSIAL government OBSTACLES that prevent oil/energy companies from accessing vast resources that could buy us time until we have a cost effective new energy source.
