I thought that it could be a fairly important thing to know (in the context of all this ongoing debate about how and whether the GOP should 'reorganize' itself to compete electorally): Can you be a 'social conservative' if you support gay marriage? Does Cheney's public support for gay marriage make him a "social liberal", like some in the GOP have charged Powell with? Because if Dick Cheney is still a 'social conservative' as far as the GOP is concerned... then apparently support for gay marriage is no longer a 'red line' to cross that can get you called a 'liberal'. Re: "I can answer it with two of my own..." (Well, that's still a dodge... but, OK, I'll play along Bill....) Re: "Does a position on one issue define your positions on other issues?" For a lot of folks apparently it DOES. (For example: views on abortion or on gay marriage! <GGG>) Re: "Is Obama a social conservative because he opposes gay marriage?" I would say that he is clearly a social moderate.
