That's right Dave, and we'll have fusion power in 10 years - EVERY 10 years.
Totally unrelated subject.
Decent AI is much harder than people imagine.
AI is difficult but highly limited by processor power and memory. If you have sufficient processor power and memory then you can start to do things that look like intelligence even though they don't function as human intelligence does. While AI is coming faster than people think, Expert Systems are totally adequate for today's needs.
It is neither here nor there, however, as autonomy is not required at this time. There is little doubt that within 20 years we will see significant autonomy. The required technology will move much faster than the pace at which people are willing to adopt it.
You READ PR about the SWORDS robot.
Actually, I've never read any PR at all about these robots. My knowledge of them comes from various sources, none of which are from watching TV and some of which comes directly from a person who has used them.
I should point out, as to SWORDS, it is currently being replaced by a new product (actually, several).
I think your knowledge of this subject is weak. You seem to have the idea that SWORDS is "the" robot. It is, of course, one of many varieties, each of which is designed to do a particular job well.
Discussing this with you is like discussing SDI with the idiot Carl Sagan back in '83. He, like you, was just too f*cking stupid to recognize that technology moves fast, the rate of change is increasing, and will continue to be for the foreseeable future. |
