I assume by "World on Fire" you mean the book by Amy Chua, not the song by Sarah McLachlan? To be minorly facetious. I thing there's a variant on the old fish without a bicycle saw on democracy and capitalism. There are perhaps worse examples than Iran and Mossedeq; I'm thinking Patrice Lumbaba versus Mobutu in Congo/ Zaire, Savimbi in Angola, the Renamo in Mozambique made a pretty impressive 3 stikes in Africa. I don't think realpolitik is necessarily a bad thing, but we certainly have propped up a lot of egregiously bad people in the Cold war era.
