Hi Steve, Re: "Ultimate Buy and Hold Strategy"................

I've done some modeling of this kind of idea in the past. In cyclical markets the use of "management" balancing Equity and Cash does best. In long upward trending markets with very few setbacks, the "managed" version doesn't do quite as well because of the drag created by the cash reserve (selling into strength). In down markets, "managed" kicks some serious rumpus because the cash acts initially as a cushion and then later, starts to get used to buy up what everyone else wants to sell (buying into weakness).

I use the Lichello investment management model for the buying and selling in each component. It's sort of a scale trading method, but possibly more interesting. It's also similar in ways to "rebalancing" but that's not quite it either. The best part is it really only requires a small amount of time maybe once a month to keep up.

My favorite book was, "The Man Who Was Too Lazy To Fail."
:-)

Best regards,
Tom
