Not quite free, the recipient pays the Social Security from their salary before they retire.

The Fed Govmt. then requires you to pay for Medicare out of your monthly Social Security check----a portion is taken out of the recipient's social security check to pay for the insurance----money that the worker previously had given for the SS program.

What you have is the government taking your money while you work and then taking a portion back a second time when you retire to operate their paper pushing operation that decides what care you get.

In other words the Federal Government controls the payment for their own inhouse insurance operation.

Medicaid is a different beast-----that is the welfare portion that became added to Social Security. When seniors go to nursing homes medicaid often takes over-----.

There is a free part to Medicare/ Medicaid which gets used for illegal immigrants with no insurance------how this works I am not sure------I know about the other because of parents and friends.

Doctors/hospitals always look to Medicare as the 1st pay. Many seniors buy private insurance also to be sure they are covered for expenses that Medicare will not cover.

The downside to Medicare Insurance is that they usually do not and will not cover state-of-the-art tests and procedures----seniors get the dregs.

The government decides what tests you get-----including what medication you can take even if it isn't compatible with your biological system----because that is what is on their list of meds.

This is why I believe Medicare should be abolished and all seniors and people use their $ for private insurance-------let the people have a real choice in health care----not the governments choice.

If women can have choice in unnatural abortions then let's have choice in insurance that we pay for in our Senior years.
