Ted, > Given Obama's smarts and competency, I think a modest return is doable in the next 5 years.

Obama's background is law and community organization. Even Geithner's background is in regulation, not in running an efficient business. Neither of them measure up to, say, a guy like Alan Mullally of Ford, yet I'm nervous about Mullally given the huge task he has.

You really have odd perceptions. It sounds like you believe that businessmen are the savviest people in our society. As far as I am concerned, you are dead wrong. Mullaly of Ford looks good only because his IQ is slightly above average compared to the rest in that line of work......or did you think he was brilliant? LOL. He looks good by comparison.

Besides, we had a president who could be called a businessman....GW Bush.....and look how well that did not turn out.

You need to start thinking outside the box and letting go of some of the precepts you learned growing up.

Government Motors is an even bigger problem being addressed by people whose only qualifications are that they have the power of trillion-dollar deficit spending to utilize.

Obama is brilliant. I suspect the people he's hired are very smart. Running a car business is not that complicated. My only concern is that Bush left them with an overflowing plate....that may tend to divert them.

If you think CA state employees are a problem, you haven't lived until you take on entrenched private sector good ole boys.

Like who?

Like the entrenched upper mgmt of GM. Have you ever read the history of GM? You should. They've made so many mistakes they make Bush look like a genius.
