Can't trust the government either. That's the problem. We are likely to replace insurance co's profit motive with an increase in government's power -- and corruption, for the two tend to go together.

I can imagine two congressmen making a deal: "If you vote for my new big bridge, I'll vote for the new wing for your medical center. We both bring the bacon home - and get re-elected, because we deliver".

The playing field between the public and private plans would not be even - the public option would be subsidized. In time, the public part will take over everything. That's the idea.

There are no perfect solutions, really.... but I'd be wary of giving the boys and girls in Washington another couple of trillion dollars to play with.
