It may be, but I think the Gallup 60+% figure is probably more meaningful. The Independents who voted for him are not giving up on it yet; they continue to want to believe.

Nobody likes having buyer remorse and people will go to extraordinary lengths to avoid coming to grips with a bad purchase. The same applies here; they simply do not want to admit that Obama was a mistake. It takes time.

Perhaps the problem with Rasumussen's approach is that he weighs the strongly approving against the strongly disapproving, which leaves the middle ground out of the analysis altogether. So, you have the middle one-third who essentially "approve" of Obama because they don't want have to admit they made a pretty bad mistake.
