"Martinez's claim that he was force-fed also fails to state a constitutional claim. The mere allegation of forced-feeding does not describe a constitutional violation. Bureau of Prison regulations authorize medical officers to force-feed an inmate if they determine that the inmate's life or permanent health is in danger."

I am a little suspicious of this. There may have been a sound medical reason to force feed him but it wasn't stated. He was force fed after seven days of a hunger strike?
1) People have been known to fast for as much as 90 days with full recovery and even claiming miraculous health benefits.
2) Seven days or even a month of fasting is not unusual and is done by people all over the world who claim benefits.
3) Personally, I think people should be able to protest this way, even if it kills them. And there are lots of historical examples of that.
4) Being force fed isn't torture anyway.
